Badminton Star PV Sindhu has accepted Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s offer of a group-I officer job in Andhra Pradesh government.
Orders are getting ready for posting her as a deputy collector.
Currently, she is working in the central public sector oil company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) as a deputy manager (sports).
Sindhu’s mother Vijaya confirmed to media that she had conveyed her willingness to take the offer. ” We are expecting the appointment order, she said.”
The Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Telangana governments had honoured Sindhu when she won Silver at Rio Olympics last year. AP cabinet felicitated Sindhu with Rs 3 crore cash prize and Telangana government, which also extended her an equal grand reception, honoured her with Rs 5 crore cash prize. Naidu, had made the job offer at the felicitation function itself but Sindhu has decided to take it up now.
Sources close to her family said PV Sindhu gave her acceptance letter to the Andhra Pradesh government during her recent visit to Vijayawada to attend the National Women’s Parliament held at nearby Amaravati, which is coming up as the state’s new capital. Authorities are now working out the formalities.
Besides the cash reward, the badminton star was also given a 1,000 sq yard residential plot in the state’s new capital Amaravati and a group-1 officer job of her choice in the state government. Also, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand has agreed to set up a badminton academy on the land allotted to him by AP government. Last year, Naidu had felicitated Gopichand with Rs 50 lakh cash reward and 15 acres land in Amaravati to set up an academy.Sources said she may get an IAS promotion in five to six years, under special considerations.
In fact, there has been a widespread debate on the social media on which state Sindhu belongs to. Both her parents belong to Andhra Pradesh but she was born in Hyderabad, now the capital of Telangana. Trying to end the debate, Sindhu asserted that she is an Indian.
