Indian Olympian Krishna Poonia turned out to be a hero in real life too. The Commonwealth Games (CWG) medal winner came to the rescue of three girls who were allegedly being molested by a group of men in Rajgarh in Rajasthan’s Churu district.
Media spoke to Krishna Poonia’s husband Virendra Poonia who narrated the entire incident that took place on January 1. He said that Poonia was in Churu and was travelling in her car in Sadulpur area, when she saw the girls being harassed near the Railway crossing. Poonia, seeing the girls in tears, got down from the car to speak to them. The girls told her that they were being harassed by some boys who were passing lewd comments and leering at them. One girl was allegedly hit by them. When the boys saw the girls complaining, they decided to flee from there.
But the CWG gold medal dicus thrower did not put the matter to rest there. She not only chased one of them for around 50 metres but also caught hold of him. The other two managed to escape.
A crowd of 300-400 people had gathered. Police was also informed who took the girls home to safety. The girl’s brother has registered an FIR of the case.
